Kross Studio Goes Solo with KS 05 Central Floating Tourbillon

Kross Studio has made quite a name for itself in a very short period of time. It was founded in 2020 by Marco Tedeschi and was able to partner with some of the greatest names and franchises in the entertainment industry. It has made astonishing and complex watches entirely in Star Wars or Game of Thrones theme, including using a unique collectors case to house them in. Now it is time for Kross Studio to take center stage themselves with the KS 05.

The case design of the KS 05 is similar to what we have seen with some of the collaboration pieces, but the movement and the dial are completely different. Made up out of 220 parts, caliber KS 7’005 is a manual wound movement running at 21,600 VpH (3Hz) and offering a power reserve of 120 hours. What makes it so special is that the mainspring barrel is not only quite large, but also placed on the central axis with the tourbillon placed on top. With a case from grade 5 titanium, the tourbillion literally takes center stage and is the highest point of the movement. The hands are actually mounted on the peripheral, turning around the mainspring barrel and tourbillon. This allows Kross Studio to add a great deal of depth to the design, while maintaining a very clean look.

With the dials, Kross Studio goes old school, opting for materials such as black and blue aventurine glass, jade, turquoise, and many other types of natural stone. As the KS 05 has an inner and outer dial, clients can even combine different types of material for an even more unique watch.

Kross Studio offers the KS 05 with either a titanium or a red gold case, with the option for both to have them set with 281 brilliant-cut diamonds, weighing approximately 5.09 carats. As the case lacks lugs, it gives a very sleek appearance that Kross Studio didn’t want to interfere with a crown. Instead, the back has a D-shaped ring in it, allowing you to wind the watch. When a button on the left side of the case is pushed, it can also be used to set the time. The finishing touch on this sleek design is the domed sapphire crystal, which features an anti-reflective coating on both sides, allowing you to admire the beauty of the dial and the innovative tourbillon construction in all its glory. The KS 05 is limited to 10 numbered pieces in each variety, and the prices start at CHF 88,000, or about $97,000 when converted to USD.
